Glimpse of the beautiful minds (continued)

The conference had come to an end. It had really been a great eye-opener. You get to see these genius doing real mathematics, not that I can understand anything out of them but from the way they presented their works, you can tell that they can FEEL the things they are doing. These people are not just doing mathematics, they are determining the way mathematics should be done. In awe....

At the same time, it is clear that the gap between me from these people is vast and it is highly that I will never be able to bridge this gap for my entire life... Still this does not make my passion of mathematics sway (at least for now). Hmmm...really need to work harder :)

Glimpse of the beautiful minds

Today I went to the Fields Institute for a conference. (to listen la of course, who am I to give lecture?) Even though I don't understand 99.999999999999% of the stuffs presented but one really gets to see a glimpse of these beautiful minds.

The conference is for a week, so I will be travelling between Hamilton and Toronto these few days. Toronto is much different from Hamilton and to a certain extent it reminds of Singapore CBD areas (I guess all cities more or less look alike). Pretty tireding to travel...the bus ride took about an hour or so and I still need to walk for 20-30 minutes from the bus terminal to Fields Institute (located in the University of Toronto). Could have take a subway but am saving on the transport fee (the bus ride between Hamilton and Toronto already cost $7++).

Enough is said. I should stop here. Tomorrow will be a busy day. Attending the conference in the day and invigilating in the evening. Maybe I will write more about the conference on Friday. Time to bath and rest...

rant

My skin condition doesn't seem to be healing completely. Maybe I should go see the doctor again.

Visiting the doctor

I seems to be suffering from some form of allergies (probably due to winter). Went to see the doctor today as my condition is not getting better. It turns out that I actually do not need to pay for consultation fee (thanks to McMaster health insurances plans), unless I want an MC for test/tutorial/exam exemption. Had I known this I would have seen the doctor directly.

Even so, I still need to pay for the prescription which is around $12+ CDN. Just took my first dose of medicine which consists of 6 tablets of Prednisone (some form of anti-inflammatory drug) at once. Then I will be taking 5 tomorrow, 4 on Monday, 3 on Tues, 2 on Wed, 1 on Thurs and by then I should be completely healed. Else I will have to return to see the doctor again as instructed.

Snow itch

The coming week will be busy one. I have three marking assignments and two test invigilations. And the best part is that I did not do a lot of reading for the past week. Well done on the slacking! The only slight consolation is that I spent much of reading week reading. Now I know what is etale cohomology and derived functors. Maybe I shall devote a post to some of these abstract nonsense one of these days.

I seem to be suffering from "snow itch" and the over-scratching had caused red spots and bee-hives to appear over parts of my body. Maybe I should be consulting a doctor. Or do anyone out there know of any medication/applications suitable for such things? Thanks to anyone who knows, you may save me some consultation fees :P (Okay okay I admit I am a stingy-broker)
